TAN Philosophy

Main Philosophy

Triangle Area Naturists (TAN) is a naturist social club dedicated to providing a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment where members can enjoy clothing-optional recreation and the company of friends. We believe social nudity is natural and non-sexual, and we follow common-sense guidelines designed to ensure everyone feels comfortable and respected.

Clothing-Optional and Judgment-Free
TAN is clothing-optional. Nudity is welcomed and accepted as natural, but no one is pressured to undress or dress in a way that makes them uncomfortable. Each person is encouraged to participate at their own comfort level.

Privacy and Respect
We value and protect the privacy of our members and guests. Everyone who attends a TAN gathering is expected to respect the confidentiality, personal boundaries, and privacy of others.

A Non-Sexual Environment

TAN is strictly a non-sexual social organization. Sexual activity, inappropriate touching, unwanted advances, harassment, gawking, sexually suggestive comments, or remarks about another person's body are not acceptable. These standards apply to everyone, including couples and partners. Members are also expected not to use connections made through TAN as a basis for unwanted sexual advances outside of club events. Violations of these standards may result in the revocation of membership.

Membership Process

TAN has an application and membership process that allows prospective members and current members to become acquainted before membership is approved. Applicants are expected to provide complete, accurate, and truthful information throughout the process.

Welcoming and Inclusive

TAN welcomes people from diverse backgrounds and does not discriminate based on marital status, gender, age, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. We also strive to maintain a welcoming group dynamic in which all participants feel comfortable and included.

Families and Children

TAN is primarily a clothing-optional social community for adults. Because many gatherings take place in private homes that may not be designed or equipped for children, most events are adult-oriented. Children may be accommodated at appropriate events with advance arrangements and the consent of the event host.

Being Part of the Community

TAN depends on the participation and generosity of its members. Members are encouraged to host gatherings and contribute when attending events. For potlucks, participants should bring food to share and provide their own beverages, towels, and other personal items as requested. Everyone is expected to treat the host's home and property with care and promptly report any accidents or concerns.

Naturism and Advocacy

TAN's primary purpose is social recreation rather than political activity or advocacy. However, we may maintain affiliations with and occasionally support national naturist organizations that provide education and stay informed about issues affecting the broader naturist community.

TAN is about friendship, acceptance, respect, and enjoying the freedom of naturism in a safe and welcoming community.
